Question by M B: Glucose level readings with gestational diabetes?
I took a three hour fasting glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks pregnant, and was told that I had gestational diabetes. In my initial pregnancy, I tested high on the 1-hour glucose tolerance test, but passed the three hour test. So this time when I failed the test, I went to the dietitian and have a follow up appointment with the doctor. I'm supposed to monitor my glucose levels: fasting just before breakfast, after breakfast, lunch and dinner. I need to admit that I'm not following the eating habits to a tee, but I am utilizing it as a guideline. My fasting studying was 82 this morning. My breakfast was 127, my lunch was 140. I take my reading through 1 hour following meals. I was curious to see what my reading through was right now 2 hours right after my lunch and it was down from 140 to 106. What is going on? I'm eatting just a little additional carbs than I'm supposed to and my readings are coming back totally normal. Does this mean I am only mildly hyperglycemic? Is it from the diet regime even though I'm kind of cheating on it? Could I not be diabetic at all?
